Momentum 13

Thursday evening at Alby: Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm

18. Sep, 19:00

Have you been intrigued by the brass hemispheres that click seemingly at random lying in the lawn in front of Galleri F 15 of late? Join us for an artist talk with the MOMENTUM 13 artist Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm!

Have you ever wondered about the blurring of lines between science and contemporary art? New scientific knowledge and art have been intrinsically linked since before the time of Leonardo da Vinci. How does new scientific findings inspire artistic creativity? Can art inspire scientists to explore new ways of working?

These are questions we will be touching on for the next Thursday evening at Alby event, when we welcome back to Alby and Galleri F 15 the artist and composer Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm, whose works teeter on and blur the boundaries between sound, visual art, and science.

Skjødt Hasselstrøm will give a presentation exploring his practice and his work with scientific specialists and how their knowledge informs and inspires his creations. The presentation will be followed by a conversation between Skjødt Hasselstrøm and Nicolas William Hughes, artist and curator of mediation at Galleri F 15.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm (b. 1980, Denmark) operates at the convergence of sound, visual practice, and scientific inquiry. With a deep interest in the (limited) sensory and cognitive capacities of the human being, particularly in the imperceptible, which constitutes an essential part of our relation to the world, Skjødt Hasselstrøm utilizes technology as a tool for an extended perception or cognition, with the artworks as facilitating thresholds between our sensory apparatus and phenomena. Hence the works investigate alternative environments of sensing and relating to the surroundings, proposing situations and spaces for reflection and contemplation.

Skjødt Hasselstrøm’s work has been presented at art institutions, venues, and festivals worldwide, and he has been awarded by Japan Media Arts Festival, Prix Ars Electronica, Edigma Semibreve, and the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen’s Foundation, among others. Skjødt Hasselstrøm holds a Master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark and is currently based in Copenhagen.
