Thursday evening at Alby: Presence – seeing with awaken eyes

13. Nov, 19:30

What does it really mean to be present – here and now? Mindfulness expert Viggo Johansen invites you to take a fresh look.

We live in a time where everything moves quickly – thoughts, images, news, choices. It is easy to think that presence is about slowing down, about calm and balance. But perhaps, at its deepest, presence is about something more radical: waking up.

In this lecture, Viggo Johansen invites us to explore presence as something more than a technique or a lifestyle choice. Through reflections, simple exercises and examples from art, philosophy and meditation, we examine what it means to be truly present.

How does presence arise in an encounter with another person, or a work of art? What happens when we no longer try to achieve something, and instead allow ourselves to be touched by what is already here?

This is not a lecture with ready-made answers, but a space for experience – a place to breathe, listen, see – and perhaps discover that what we are seeking has never really been gone.

The lecture is arranged in connection with the newly opened exhibition by Marina Abramović, which explores themes such as silence, energy, meditation and presence.

ABOUT VIGGO JOHANSEN
Viggo Johansen has worked with people’s inner lives for over two decades – how we can live more awake, true and present in the midst of a busy world. He has a background as a mindfulness teacher, author and supervisor, and combines modern psychology with wisdom traditions from philosophy, yoga and contemplative practice.

A central theme in his work is the human longing for meaning and connection – not only with oneself, but with life as a whole. Through lectures, courses and immersion programs, he invites people to explore what presence really is when we look beyond the techniques and approach the experience directly: the quiet point behind the thoughts, where the experience of “I” and the world meet.

Viggo is known for conveying complex topics in an accessible and close way – with a calm voice and a deep respect for the human inner landscape.
