ABOUT THE ARTIST

Marina Abramović (b. 1946, Belgrade, Yugoslavia) is a pioneering figure in performance art. Since the 1970s, she has explored the limits of body and mind through works involving pain, endurance, and spiritual transformation. Her collaboration with German artist Ulay produced some of the most iconic performances of the 1970s and 1980s, including Imponderabilia.

Throughout her career, Abramović has continued to push the boundaries of what is considered art. In 2013 she founded the Marina Abramović Institute to support long durational performance art.

Abramović has presented her work in solo exhibitions and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel, as well as Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and the Royal Academy of Arts in London, where she became the first female artist to hold a solo exhibition in the Main Galleries in 2023.
