VIBEKE BÄRBEL SLYNGSTAD, MODERN CLASSICS

30. Nov 2012 - 26. Jan 2013

In the series Modern Classics Vibeke Bärbel Slyngstad examines contrasts between strict
modernist architecture and natural phenomenon, or people, as well as the possibilities of
painting as a medium.
Vibeke Bärbel Slyngstad examines the relations between illusion and shattering the illusion and provides different
perspectives to look at the painting from a new point of view. Motives for the paintings are from interiors and
exteriors of classic modernist buildings. Villa Stenersen in Oslo, by Arne Korsmo , the Nordic Pavilion in Venice
by Sverre Fehn and  the Barcelona Pavilion from the World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929 by Mies van der Rohe
In 2009, Slyngstad presented two images from Modern Classics at the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, as
part of the artists Elmgren & Dragset's project «The Collectors»
